I’ll be in the Lake District in August, peak tourist time.  I want to find the real Lake District, the quiet, lesser-known areas that tourists don’t often visit.  Any ideas?

Is Cartmel worth visiting, it’s only a village?  I want to have at least three reasons to visit.

The UK has several UNESCO World Heritage sites please recommend some options for me to visit.

I’m studying English Literature and Wordsworth’s poetry.  I know he lived in the Lake District, and I’m visiting the area soon, so I want to go to some places he made famous. Please suggest some options.
