My top three reasons to visit
Food – two Michelin-starred restaurants, L’Enclume – 3 stars & Rogan & Co – 1 star. I’ve eaten in both of Simon Rogan’s restaurants.
L’Enclume is a marathon, I think the tasting menu is still 14 courses, it’s very expensive, but an unforgettable experience. Food is creatively presented, it’s seasonal food grown in Simon’s on-site farm or sourced locally. The restaurant is simple, and the service is professional and friendly. All the staff are knowledgeable, but I found the experience exhausting. Each dish was explained, which I found a bit intrusive.
I prefer Rogans and have eaten there several times. It’s also an experience, but a more relaxed occasion.
Other Cartmel food.
Sticky toffee pudding was famously created in Cartmel about 30 years ago, and is available at the village shop.
Visit the cheese shop in Unsworth Yard; there’s also a brewery.
Cartmel Priory – an 800-year-old religious building with history and architecture to explore.
Cartmel racecourse – a seasonal racecourse open only for a few days of the year. The racing day ends with music from a famous singer or group.
Visit nearby Holker Hall, owned by the Cavendish family. Peaceful gardens, a historic house with many featured events throughout the year.
Cartmel is a small village, but it has plenty to see and do, both within the village and in the surrounding area.

Visiting Coniston is a good choice. The lake is beautiful with picturesque views and it’s ideal for canoeing. The steam yatch Gondola sails several times a day and it’s a peaceful way to explore from the water. Views of Coniston Old Man, the surrounding fells and Brantwood house are interesting landmarks. Brantwood is a historic house with gardens on the east side of the lake. John Ruskin, artist and writer once lived there. The Old Man is a mountain overlooking the lake which is popular with climbers. The Ruskin Museum tells the history of Coniston and includes exhibits connected with Donald Campbell and Bluebird the boat he broke the world water speed record in on Coniston lake.
You can drive round the lake, the roads are very narrow on the east side with passing places.

March and November are the months I don’t like in England. They’re also the months I feel most comfortable in Dubai. I think that’s what makes them the best months for travel between the two countries.
March in the UK is cold, with strong winds, sometimes snow, and most days are rainy. It feels dark and bleak, and after several months of winter, the warmth of Dubai is very appealing.
But the temperature difference is a challenge for travellers. I visited Dubai in March of this year. I arrived at Manchester Airport wrapped up for the cold and rain, but I was very aware that after the eight-hour flight, I would arrive in temperatures at least twenty degrees higher and with sunny skies.
The what to wear to travel dilemma never feels easy, even though I’ve been to Dubai many times.
Avoid bulky clothing items; remember to take a change of shoes. Winter boots don’t look or feel good in the Dubai heat. Leave space in your carry-on bag to store your cold-weather clothing during the flight. Wearing layers makes adjusting to the plane temperature and then Dubai easier.
Sunglasses help shield you from the bright glare you’ll encounter when leaving Dubai airport. Always keep water with you, as the heat will hit you as you leave the airport, and staying hydrated helps.
My advice is to wear layers; natural fabrics like cotton and linen work best in the heat. Remember to pack a change of shoes, avoid bulky items, and bring sunglasses and water, as they are essential on arrival.

You could get a check code before leaving the UK as a convenient way to share and validate your driving licence information with a rental company. Get this from the UK Government website.
Some rental companies require an International Driving Permit (IDP), which is a translation of your driving licence. But always bring a valid UK driving licence.
You also need a credit card in your name and your passport.
The roads are always busy, especially the main routes. Be aware of the differences. For example, driving is on the right side in Dubai. Traffic moves fast, and cars are generally bigger in Dubai.
Always check traffic laws before you travel.
Seatbelts are compulsory, alcohol is zero-tolerance when driving, and phones are only hands-free.

Both airports are very big and you have to walk long distances. I fly with Emirates on their A380, and the walk through Manchester airport to the gate is long because the plane is on the last stand.
The A380 is comfortable, and I’ve flown with Emirates on this route as an economy and business passenger. Business and First Class are on the upper deck. There’s a meeting area with drinks and food available throughout the flight. Service is always good, and if it’s a night flight, your seat converts into a comfortable bed. All meals offer several choices, and special diets are accommodated. If you can afford the ticket price, Business Class is an option I recommend as a good starting point for your trip. In March, I traveled to Dubai as a Business Class passenger and returned in economy class.
The economy option is comfortable, but because the A380 is such a large aircraft and the route is popular, it’s always been full when I’ve travelled. So, service can be slow.
You can take an empty water bottle and fill it for free before boarding in Manchester; there are several water-filling areas available. Bottled water is expensive airside, so keep it for the heat of Dubai.
The walk through Dubai Airport is also long, and there’s a short automated train ride. Security always involves a long queue, but it’s organised, and my overall impression of the airport is positive.
When you leave the airport, be prepared to be “hit” by the heat in Dubai. Remember that you have water!

The tram runs every 10 minutes and is a 30-minute journey to the city centre.
There’s a frequent bus service that runs along the Promenade des Anglais and also stops in the Old Town.
Both the tram and the train are inexpensive options.
A taxi is a good option if you are traveling with lots of luggage or can share the cost. It’s a fixed rate of 32 euros and will, of course, take you to your exact location.
And there’s also a train. Use the train if you want to go to Monaco.

Hi, if you are looking for pure vegetarian food in Puri during the Rath Yatra, you can try the traditional vegetarian thalis that are commonly served around the Grand Road and Balagandi areas. These thalis usually include rice, dal, mixed vegetables, paneer dishes, and simple rotis, all prepared in vegetarian kitchens without mixing with non-veg items. South Indian meals like dosas, idlis, and vadas are also widely available and are a safe choice if you prefer pure vegetarian options. Many small food joints around the temple area serve these meals fresh and quickly.
One of the best things to experience is the Mahaprasad at Ananda Bazaar inside the Jagannath Temple. It is a holy and fully vegetarian meal, cooked without onion or garlic, and served fresh several times a day. You can also explore street food stalls near the temple that serve popular vegetarian items like Dahibara Aludum, Aloo Chop, and Enduri Pitha. These areas around the temple are known for offering pure vegetarian food and are easily accessible by foot.
